Captain John P. Bryant (USN O-6) was commissioned as an Infantry Officer after graduation of the Officer Candidate School, 22 November 1967. Captain Bryant’s first duty assignment was as Rifle Platoon Leader, 1st battalion 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Assistant Platoon Leader and Pilot, 190th Assault Helicopter Company, 1st Aviation BDE, Vietnam; Rotary Wing Aviator, Combat Concepts Developer, John F. Kennedy Center for Special Warfare, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Aviation Platoon Leader, Company A 28th Aviation BN, Virginia Army National Guard; Flight Surgeon, P-3 Squadron 4349, Patuxent River, Maryland; Flight Surgeon for Reserve Patrol Wing Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia; Medical Officer, Joint Special Operations Flight Detachment, Iraq. | Captain Bryant's military awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Air Medal (with “V” device), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Expert Pistol and Rifle Badges, Parachute Badge, and the Army Aviator Senior Badge. | Following his retirement, Captain Bryant worked as a physician and served as a board member of Tidewater Physicians Multi-specialty Group in Newport News, Virginia.
