Dr. John E. Visser was commissioned an Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School on 11 February 1943, Class Number 167. His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, IRTC, 30th Training Battalion, Company B, Camp Croft, SC. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Mortar Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Battalion Reconnaissance Officer, Company H, 2d Battalion, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Division, Fort Bragg, NC; Company Commander and Battalion Adjutant, 2nd Battalion Headquarters Company, 398th Infantry. | Military schools attended include: Radio School, Officer Candidate School, Army Information and Education Staff. | Dr Visser holds a B.A. degree from Hope College, Holland, Michigan; M.A  & PhD (History) from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. | Served as President, Emporia State University. | His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, ETO Ribbon w/2 Battle Stars, American Theatre Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Germany Occupational Medal, Victory Medal.
