Gordon H. Mansfield
Description
The Honorable Gordon H. Mansfield was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 4-65, 14 April 1965. His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader, C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, Republic of Vietnam. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Recon Platoon Leader, D Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, Republic of Vietnam; Recon Platoon Leader, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501 Infantry (Airborne), 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; S-4, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry (Airborne), 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Commander, C Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry (Airborne), 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Republic of Vietnam. While serving as a Company Commander, 101st Airborne Division, he sustained a spinal cord injury and retired 28 September 1972 as a Captain. He is a former Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Urban Development (HUD); first Associate Director of Government Relations, Paralyzed Veterans of America and served as Executive Director, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Washington, D.C.
