Description
Colonel Dennis M. Thompson enlisted in the Army in 1983 and was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School, 51st Company in December of 1984. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, he served in the Berlin Brigade from 1985-1988 where he held positions as Rifle Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, and Rifle Company Executive Officer in C Company, 4/502d Infantry Battalion. | Upon completion of his tour in West Berlin, he branch transferred to the Ordnance Corps and graduated Ordnance Officer’s Advance Course as the Distinguished Honor Graduate. He served in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) from 1989-1993. | His subsequent duty assignments included: Commander, A Company, 801st Maintenance Battalion, including seven months in Desert Shield/Storm and Plans and Operations Officer at the 101st DISCOM S3. He completed a Master’s Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1995 and then served as an instructor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at the United States Military Academy from 1995-1997. Upon completion of Command and General Staff College, Colonel Thompson served as the Support Operations Officer, 302d FSB, 2ID; Executive Officer, 25th FSB, 25th ID (LIGHT) at Fort Lewis, Washington; CSS Division Chief, Brigade Coordination Cell for Transformation in support of the Army’s first two Stryker Brigade Combat Teams; Commander, 296th Brigade Support Bn, 3/2 SBCT, including 12 months in Iraq; Chief, Maintenance and Supply Division for I Corps G4; and Director, DMC, Army Sustainment Command, Illinois; Commander, 401st Army Field Support Brigade, Southwest Asia. Colonel Thompson is a graduate of the Untied States Army War College. | His awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal w/ 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Airborne and Air Assault Badges.
