Jerry R. Curry
Description
Major General Jerry R. Curry graduated from Technical High School in McKeesport in 1950, and enlisted in the Army in March 1951. Following Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry in December 1952. He served in a variety of junior and student officer assignments including the 11th Airborne Division, 10th Infantry Division, 2d Infantry Brigade (Separate), and the 4th Infantry Division. | In 1965 he formed the 220th Aviation Company at Fort Lewis and took it to Vietnam in June 1965 in support of the 3d US Marine Amphibious Force and Army of the Republic of Vietnam, I Corps. After returning to CONUS in 1966, Major General Curry graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS, in June 1967 before being assigned to Germany. He served as a staff officer in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at the U.S. Army Europe Headquarters in Heidelberg and commanded the 2d Battalion, 30th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division between 1967-70. Returning to the Republic of Vietnam for his second tour, he served as a senior advisor to the 41st ARepublic of Vietnam Regiment, during 1970-71 in Binh Dinh and Dak To. | During 1971-72, Major General Curry was assigned as an operations research analyst to the Pentagon in the Office of the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. After graduation from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, he assumed command of the 3d Brigade, 8th Infantry Division in Germany in June 1973. In July 1975, he was assigned as V Corps Chief of Staff. In May 1976 he was assigned to U.S. Army Military District of Washington as the Deputy Commanding General. In August 1977, he became Assistant Division Commander, 4th Infantry (Mechanized), Fort Carson, CO. He assumed command of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command on 1 November 1978. | Major General Curry is a Master Army Aviator and Ranger and Airborne qualified. He has earned the Legion of Merit w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Navy Commendation Medal with V device and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with palm and silver star. He has also earned the Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Expert Infantryman Badge. | Major General Jerry R. Curry was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1960) with a Bachelor of General Education degree, received a master’s degree in international relations from Boston University (1970), and a doctorate of ministry from Luther Rice Seminary (1978), Jacksonville, Florida.
