Joe B. Lamb

Colonel Joe B. Lamb graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate Class Number 198 on 18 March 1943, and was then assigned to the Military Police Training Center, Fort Custer, Michigan as an instructor. In 1946, he attended Middle Tennessee State University. | In 1948, he was assigned to the 3d Armored Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served as a Battalion S3 and as a Company Commander. In 1950, during the Korean Conflict he served as Company Commander, S-3 and as Battalion Commander with 2d Battalion, 35th Infantry, 25th Division. He returned to Fort Benning in 1951 to serve as Commander, 1st Battalion, 1st OCS Regiment and he then attended the Infantry Officer Advance Course. In 1954, Colonel Lamb was assigned as the Regimental Advisor to the Minnesota National Guard. He then attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon graduation he was assigned to the Joint United States Military Advisory Group in the Philippines. In 1958, he returned to Fort Leavenworth as a member of the Staff and Faculty of the Command and General Staff College.  Colonel Lamb was sent to the Republic of Vietnam in 1963 where he served as the Senior Airborne Advisor with the Military Assistance Advisory Group. Upon his return to the United States in 1964,  he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C. From 1965 to 1966,  he served as the Inspector General and later as a Brigade Commander with the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. | He returned to Washington in 1967 where he served with the Office of Research and Development.  He was Director of Materiel, Combat Development Command and he is presently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Combat Development Command at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. | His awards and decorations include the Silver Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge, Second Award. | Be it known that Colonel Joe B. Lamb, having displayed outstanding Leadership and being duly qualified, is placed on the Honor Roll in the Infantry Officer Candidate Hall of Fame, attested at Fort Benning, Georgia, on this the Twentieth Day of July 1973.
