James H. Carroll, Jr.

Colonel James H. Carroll, Jr. graduated from OCS Class 446, 15 May, 1945. His first assignment was with the 15th Regiment, Camp Fannin, Texas. He subsequently served as Adjutant for the 3d Military Governing Regiment, Europe. | Following an assignment as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Fulton County High School, Atlanta, Georgia, he was a platoon leader and company commander with the 8th Cavalry, Far East Command. | In 1951 he served as Assistant G-3 with the Headquarters of the 1st Armored Division. Following assignments as an instructor at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, and the Personnel Staff Office in Washington he was assigned to the 371st Armored Infantry Brigade in Europe. In 1956 he served as a Staff Officer for Headquarters of the Seventh Army. Upon returning to the states he was assigned to the 52d Infantry Division before attending Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1960. | In 1961 he became Assistant to the Secretary of the General Staff for U.S. Army Pacific in Korea. His subsequent assignments brought him to Washington, D.C. where he served in the Plans Division in the Office of the Chief of Research and Development, and Assistant Executive Officer in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense. He was named Test Director, Weapons Destruction Techniques for Project Cloudgap in 1965. His next assignments were AIT Battalion Commander at Fort Dix, New Jersey; Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3 section, Fort Dix, New Jersey; Senior Military Advisor, Republic of Vietnam; Chief of Materiel Development Division, Research and Development Directorate. | Colonel Carroll's awards and decorations include: the Silver Star w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal.
