As an advocate committed to serving our nation's heroes, Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell is honored to be a Board Member and Treasurer for The United States Army Officer Candidate School Alumni Association. Her journey from enlisted soldier to commissioned officer, coupled with diverse experiences in military and civilian spheres, equipped her with a unique blend of skills and insights essential for effective financial stewardship. With dedication and a passion for the association’s cause, she will ensure the fiscal integrity and success of the organization's mission.

Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell entered the Army in 2014 and completed six years as an enlisted soldier in the Iowa National Guard. She deployed with the 449th Combat Aviation Brigade to Kuwait and Iraq in 2017 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (Spartan Shield). Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell was commissioned through Officer Candidate School as a Medical Services Corps Officer in 2020 at Ft. Benning (now Ft. Moore), Georgia. Through proactive leadership and devotion to excellence, she strives to uphold the highest standards of medical readiness and ensure the health and safety of those who bravely serve our nation in garrison and in theater.

In her civilian capacity, Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell works as a Business Analyst in the accounting and finance department of an area-leading ready-mix concrete company. She supports the company’s mission of building better lives, communities, and country through reporting, automating processes, and modifying actions. In her previous role, she worked as an Energy and Operations Manager contracted through her local public school district. She decreased energy consumption by 19% and avoided over one million dollars in utility spending throughout 22 facilities.

Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell is dedicated to supporting those who have served and are currently serving our country. Whether through her military or civilian career, advocating for the well-being of veterans and active service members is a driving force. Her passion for this cause is the immense gratitude for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. These detriments and experiences of others inspire her to assist the association’s members, ensuring TUSAOCSAA continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who have bravely volunteered to serve our nation; past, present, and especially to the families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Mind and body are priorities for Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell in her free time. She enjoys high-intensity interval training, running and lifting, yoga, and expresses her creativity through photography and graphic design. She finds value in finding automation and process improvements in and outside the home. Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell loves all things HGTV and renovating her 80s home one project at a time. During Iowa summers she is often found swimming at the lake or enjoying time on the patio with friends and family.

Lieutenant Abigail L. Cottrell is immensely grateful for the support and opportunities provided by her civilian employer. Their understanding and flexibility enable her to serve both country and community with dedication and excellence. She is appreciative of her unit, the Iowa National Guard, and the United States Army for her experiences and professional relationships through her tenure. Above all, she feels an immeasurable debt of gratitude to her beloved family, whose love, sacrifice, and encouragement have been the heart and soul of her journey. Their support allows her the ability to be successful and gives meaning to her every endeavor.
