2LT Jean-Paul A Stassi Jr.

2LT Jean-Paul “JP” Stassi was born in Fresno, California but migrated to Fairhope, Alabama where he enlisted in the US Army as an Infantryman (Mortar 11C) in November 1998. He spent 14 years active and national guard combined as an Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) before attending the Alabama Military Academy Accelerated OCS school. He commissioned as a Signal Officer in September 2021 through the 200th Regimental Training Institute, Alabama Military Academy Army Officer Candidate School in Fort McClellan, Alabama. 2LT Stassi holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Inter-national Relations from American Military University and continued his education by receiving his Graduate Degree of Master Business Administration specializing in Project Management from Ashford University. With his 17+ years of Mili-tary Service, 2LT Stassi has serviced in many leadership positions from the team to company level.

2LT Stassi is currently the Assistant Team Chief for the Alabama National Guard Defensive Cyber Operations Element (DCO-E) at the Alabama Joint Forces Headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama. He is responsible as a systems network engineer/cyber operations officer for the DCOE. He manages and coordinates with two fully staffed cyber teams while actively engaging as a cyber-officer himself. Before commissioning, he was assigned as the Platoon Sergeant as an Sergeant (E5) for the HHC 1-167th Infantry Mortar/Sniper section for two years. He managed all this soldiers in his pla-toons while helping revamp the Company’s SOPs and TTPs enhancing HHC’s overall defensive and offensive capabili-ties. He was the youngest NCO in this position. In October 2005 to January 2007, 2LT Stassi (then a Specialist) de-ployed to Iraq and was assigned to as Personal Security Detail to the Iraqi Presidential Council. Some of 2LT Stassi’s other assignments include: HHC 1-12th Infantry (Mortars), B Co 2BN 20th SFG (A), 19th CRD 2BN 20th SFG (A), C Co 711th Signal, and 690th Chemical Co.

2LT Stassi also served as an Observation Controller/Trainer at Camp Shelby for the mounted and dismounted combat patrol lanes where he trained over 10,000 deploying ARNG soldiers. 2LT Stassi has been making great strides and ad-vancements as a commissioned officer by working at the 200th Regimental Regional Training Institute Fort McClellan, Alabama working on developing the next OCS candidates wanting to be officers in the US Army/Army National Guard.

2LT Stassi served in one deployment to Iraq and spent 6 rotations (civilian) in Afghanistan training new elite infantry soldiers and teaching the first Female Engagement Team/SOF Cultural Support Teams in Afghanistan. He recently was assigned to Exercise Noble Guardian, which was the first multi-international cyber exercise event in the National Guard history that brought in soldiers from Alabama, Maine, Romania and Montenegro. This exercise set forth the foundation to allow non-FivEye military partners to work alongside US counterparts on specific FivEye and battlefield programs.

2LT Stassi’s awards and decorations are Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster) Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (Campaign Star), Presidential Citation Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Reserve Compo-nent Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M Device), Alabama National Emergency Service Medal (9-11 Clasp), Alabama Faithful Service Medal 2LT Stassi also earned the Combat Action Badge and Laos Foreign Parachutist Wings Badge.
