Lieutenant Colonel William Kreil served as Weapons Platoon Leader with the 363rd Infantry, 91st Division, Camp White, Oregon, in 1942. He later became Company Commander of this company, which moved to North Africa and Italy in 1944. | In 1945, he served as Training Officer of the 27th Depot, Italy. Colonel Kreil had a break in service from June 1946 to September 1948, resuming his career as Assistant IG, Fort Lewis, Washington, and remaining at that post until 1950; 1951, he attended the Assoc Advance Course, Fort Benning, Georgia; 1952-1954, he served as Headquarters Comdt, Korea Mil Asst Group, Kwangju, Korea, Division IG, 31st Infantry Division and Post IG, Camp Atterbury, Indiana, and 8th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; 1955, he was a student at Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and upon graduation was assigned as S3 and Executive Officer with the 8th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; 1957-1958, he served at Battalion Commander, BG Adj and Assistant G3 in the 8th Infantry Division, Germany; 1959-1962, Colonel Kreil served as an Attack Committee Instructor with the Command Staff Department, Fort Benning, Georgia. | Lieutenant Colonel Kreil's decorations include: the Bronze Star w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Purple Heart; Commendation Ribbon w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
