Colonel William J. Daly was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer’s Candidate School Class AOCC 1, 2 April 1947. His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader Headquarters and Headquarters Company, The Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Platoon Leader, Unit Training Officer and Company Executive Officer, Company D, 32d Tank Battalion, 3d Armored Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky; Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, Company G, 306th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, New York, New York; Company Commander, Heavy Mortar Company, 306th Infantry Regiment; Administration Company, Staff Judge Advocate Section, 77th Infantry Division; Acting Staff Judge Advocate, 77th Infantry Division; Acting Staff Judge Advocate, 4th Judge Advocate General’s Detachment, Headquarters, 77th Infantry Division; Commanding Officer of Detachments subordinate top 4th JAG Detachment, Headquarters; S-3 of 4th JAG, Detachment Headquarters; Training, Headquarters. | At the time of his induction, Colonel Daly was a practicing attorney and a Special Referee in lawyer disciplinary proceedings by appointment of the Appellate Division, 2d Department of the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
