Colonel William A. McAleer served as Regimental Transportation Officer, 289th Infantry, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, in 1943. He was Troop Movement Officer of the 1st Repl Training Center, Fort McClellan, Alabama, 1944-1945; 1946-1948 he served with the 17th Major Port, Bremerhaven, Germany; 1949-1952, he was assigned to the New Orleans Port of Embarkation; 1953 he served with the 7th Major Port, Pusan, Korea; 1954 he served as Commanding Officer Kure Port, Kure, Japan. He activated the Sunny Point Army Terminal, Southport, North Carolina in 1955. He served as Director of Operations, Brooklyn Army Terminal, 1957-1958. 1959 he was assigned as CO, Fort Mason, California. | His decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
