Major General Tracy A. Thompson was commissioned an Engineer Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 2-84, 27 March 1984. His first duty assignment was as a Platoon Leader, 397th Engineer Battalion, Onalaska, Wisconsin. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Commander, 412th TEC, Vicksburg, Mississippi; Commander, 420th Brigade, Bryan, Texas; Commander, 300th Sustainment Brigade, Grand Prairie, Texas; Deputy Commander, 300th Transportation Group, Grand Prairie, Texas; Commander, 436th Transportation Battalion, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; Commander, 462nd Transportation Battalion, Fort Dix, New Jersey; S3 Operations Officer, 300th Transportation Group, Butler, Pennsylvania; Executive Officer, 313th Transportation Battalion, Baltimore, Maryland; Inspector General, 310th Theater Support Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Commander, 299th Engineer Company, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Deputy Commanding General (Support), U.S. Army Reserve Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Prior to retiring, he was a co-founder and President of Powell & Thompson, P.C., a Virginia litigation firm established in 1990. The battalion he commanded when deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom also earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
