First Lieutenant Robert V. Craig was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School at Camp Gordon, Georgia, in August 1945. His first duty assignment was as Regimental S-5 and Assistant Division G-5, 3d, 9th, and 1st Infantry Divisions (US Zone occupied Germany). | He subsquently served as Staff Advisor, G-5, 1st Military District. | As a civilian Mr. Craig worked in real estate and as a News Editor for WSPA Radio, Spartanburg, South Carolina. He later became a Political Reporter for the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the City Editor, and finally the Journal's Managing Editor. Working for the USA Agency for International Development (USAID), he became the Province Representative, Long An Province, Vietnam, for the Department of State. He was also the Deputy Senior Advisor, Long An Province, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam; Senior Development Officer, Delta Military Assistance Command, Can Tho, Vietnam; and finally, Associate Director, CORDS Community Development, Saigon, Vietnam. First Lieutenant Craig's awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Honor Award, Department of State, USAID.
