Description

Colonel Richard Philip Stage was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 2-71, 3 September 1971. His first duty assignment was as a Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader, Combat Support Company, 2nd Bn, 185th INF, Turlock, California.

His subsequent assignments include: Executive Officer then Commander, Combat Support Company (CSC) , 1st Bn, 159th  INF, Turlock, California;  Chief, Recruiting Team, 1st Bn, 159th INF;  Commander, CSC, 1st Bn, 184 INF (M), Turlock, California; State Operations Officer, California Cadet Corps (JR ROTC) Headquarters, Sacramento, California;  S-3, Air, 1st Bn, 184th INF, Modesto, California;  Commander, Company C, 1st Bn, 361st Regiment, 2nd Bde (BT), 91st Division (TNG), San Jose, California; Training Officer, 2nd Bde, 91st Div, Hamilton Air Force Base, California;  Assistant S-3/ S-2, 2nd Bde, Hamilton Air Force Base, California; Operations Officer, 3rd Bn, 362nd Regiment, 2nd Bde, San Jose, California; Training Officer, 6405th RTU, 351st Civil Affairs Command, Mountain View, California; Recruiting Retention and EO Officer, 351st CA Command; Finance Officer and Chief, Collective Training and Evaluation Section, 351st CA Command;  Public Finance Officer, 351st CA Command; Commander, 445th CA Bn, Oakland Army Base, California; Public Finance Officer, Government Team, 351st CA Command; Chief, Current Operations Cell, Headquarters, U.S. Army CA and Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Chief, Economics and Commerce Team, 351st CA Command; Chief, Government Team, 351st CA Command; Assistant Chief of  Staff, G1, 351st CA Command; Deputy Commander, 351st Combined Joint Civil Military Task Force, NATO Peace Stabilization Force, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina; Chief of Staff, 351st Civil Affairs Command, Mountain View, California.  After OCS Hall of Fame induction, he was subsequently selected to command Simulations Exercise Group 3, 1st Bde, 91st Div (TS), Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, Dublin, CA. In October 1998. he returned as Chief of Staff, 351st CACOM in November 2000. He retired from the Army Reserve on 1 October 2001 and received the Legion of Merit award.

He is currently the State Chairman for the California ESGR Committee and has been for two years, he was also an ESGR National Volunteer of the Year twice and a Roche Award Recipient. He termed out as the AUSA Sixth Region President in 2020. He previously served on the AUSA National Advisory Board of Directors. He was appointed as a United States Army Reserve Ambassador for California in 2016. He served on the board for the Civil Affairs Association and was a national vice-president for 13 terms. He earned the Recruiters “Gold Badge” while serving with the National Guard. He is a Distinguished Member of the Civil Affairs Corps Regiment and 2013 ‘Temple’ Award recipient.
