Major John Henry Stoneburg IV was commissioned a Military Police Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 05-98 at Fort Benning, Georgia, 23 September 1998. His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader, HHC, 172nd Infantry Brigade, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

His subsequent duty assignments include: BDE Asst S-3, 16th MP BDE (ABN); BDE S-1, 16th MP BDE (ABN), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; BDE S-1, 16th MP BDE (ABN), Baghdad, Iraq; Company Commander, 16th MP BDE (ABN), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Company Commander, 16th MP BDE (ABN), Kalsu, Iraq; Company Commander, 16th MP BDE (ABN), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; S-3, 503rd MP BN (ABN); APMS, Wake Forest University; Chief, Long Range Plans, 8th US Army; MP ORG Integrator, HQDA, Pentagon. He also served in an undisclosed capacity with the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Following military service, MAJ Stoneburg retired in 2012 as the Headquarters, Department of the Army, MP Organization Integrator. He has since held positions of incredible responsibility as a Department of the Army Civilian. As (GS-15) Deputy Chief, Force Programs Division, Directorate of Force Management, Army G-3/5/7 (DAMO-FM), he leads the team responsible for the Total Army Analysis process. His team recommends to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Army the size, composition, structure, and component mix of the Army's 1.1M military member authorizations. Once approved, his team works across the staff and with Army Commands to execute the decisions. He routinely briefs the most senior leaders and provides coordination and information to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the United States Congress.

His military education and training consists of: Officer Candidate School, MP Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, Jungle Operations Course, Basic Airborne Course, Pathfinder Course, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, MP Captain’s Career Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Air War College.
