Description

Lieutenant Colonel Mark D. Mariska was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School class 3-64 on 20 March 1964 at Fort Benning, Georgia. His first duty assignment was Commanding Officer, Company G, U.S. Army Security Agency Regiment, Fort Devens, Massachusetts.

His subsequent duty assignments include: Operations Officer, Army Security Agency 8th Radio Research Field Station, Phu Bai, Vietnam, in support of the 3rd Marine Division and Strategic Intelligence Officer, Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff (Joint Chiefs of Staff), Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. He left active duty in 1972 and continued service in the Army National Guard, including Deputy G-2 of the 40th Mechanized Infantry Division, until his retirement in 1991.

His military education includes: the Defense Language Institute (Russian), the Command and General Staff College, the USAF Ballistic Missile Staff Course and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

In 1982, he organized the California Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program, a non-profit corporation serving Vietnam War veterans experiencing difficulty transitioning back into society. He was the executive co-producer of the historical documentary, “Always Faithful” Vietnam 1967 about the daily acts of valor never brought to light by the press.

His civilian positions include: Senior Vice President, Horace Mann Educators Corporation; Chief Deputy, Insurance Commissioner of California; Senior Vice President for Operations, USAA Group; Executive-in-Residence and Adjunct Professor of Organization Theory, Middlebury College, Vermont; Chairman and CEO, American Insurance Consortium Inc., and Investment Project Partner of the General Capital Group (Munich, Germany). He also served as senior advisor to the Soviet Ministry of Fuel and Energy, the Russian Ministry of Finance, the Federal Insurance Inspectorate, and Moscow State University with emphasis on insurance regulation, insurance operations and consumer market development.

His highest military awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals.
