Upon graduating from the Infantry Officers Candidate School in 1943 Lieutenant Colonel Lewis M. Millican, Jr. served as a Platoon Leader with the 48th Armored Infantry Battalion in the European Theater of Operations. | He was promoted to Captain in 1947 while serving as PIO with the Alabama Recruiting Service, Montgomery, Alabama. In 1948, Lieutenant Colonel Millican joined the 32d Infantry Regiment as a Company Commander in Korea, and served successively as a Company Commander with the 5th Regimental Combat Team, Battalion S2, S3, and Executive Officer, in the 31st Infantry Regiment. He attained the rank of Major in 1951. Lieutenant Colonel Millican served as a National Guard Advisor from 1952 thru 1954 with the 48th Infantry Division, Georgia National Guard, Macon, Georgia. His next tour was in Europe where he served as S3, 4th Replacement Group, Battalion Commander, 3d Replacement Battalion, Germany, and Deputy Installation Commander, Rochefort Installation, France. Lieutenant Colonel Millican returned to Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1958;  and while serving as Battalion Executive Officer, 2d Student Battalion, The Student Brigade, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He continued to serve in The Student Brigade as S3, Headquarters The Student Brigade and Battalion Commander, 4th Student Battalion. | Lieutenant Colonel Millican’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal w/ one oak leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Ribbon w/ Metal Pendant, Navy Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
