John W. Dixon

Honorable John W. Dixon entered the U.S. Army as a private in November of 1941 and graduated from the Infantry Officer Candidate School in February of 1943, Class #180-43. He served in the European Theater of Operations for two and one-half years and was discharged in February of 1946 as a first lieutenant. | John Dixon graduated from Withrow High School, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1937. He received an AB Degree in Foreign Affairs at George Washington University in 1949 and was Phi Beta Kappa and Order of Artus. He received an MA Degree in Economics from the University of Miami in 1951. He served as president of the Dallas Economists Club and is a member of the American Ordnance Association, Association of the United States Army, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Council on Trends and Perspectives, the National Planning Association’s Committee on America’s Goals and Resources, The Advisory Council of the Dallas Community Chest Trust Fund, and Goals for Dallas Committee. | He was elected 9 May 1969. The company he heads has plants in Indiana, Massachusetts, Utah, South Carolina and New Mexico as well as its major operations and headquarters in Texas. Texas plants are located in Arlington, Garland and Greenville. Prior to joining LTV Electrosystems, Inc., Mr. Dixon was Vice President of Plans for Ling-Temco-Vought, Inc. He has been associated with LTV since September, 1962, when be became Assistant to the President of the Chance Vought Division. He came to LTV after serving from March, 1961 until September, 1962, as Deputy Comptroller, Director of Systems Planning, Office of Assistant Secretary of Defense (Controller) Department of Defense. Before serving with the Department of Defense, he was with Convair Division, General Dynamics Corp., where he was a member of management for eight years. Earlier, Mr. Dixon was as Associate Professor of Economics at Mississippi Southern College, Labor Economist with the Southern District Bureau of Labor Statistics in Atlanta, Georgia, and assistant manager of a building and development company in Houston, Texas.
