Colonel Francis E. Naughton began his commissioned service on 28 July 1942 as CO, Headquarters Company, 507th Prcht Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, later assuming the duties as Regimental Commo Officer, moving over-seas in 1944, and remained in the capacity as Regimental Commo Officer through 1945 in the European Theater of Operations. 1946 he returned to Fort Benning, Georgia, as Instructor in the Airborne Section, USAIS, remaining in this capacity through 1947. 1948-1949 he was assigned with Headquarters, Eighth Army War Crimes Commission and as CO, Company G, 188th Prcht Infantry, RECOM. 1949-1951 he was assigned with the 11th Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as Assistant G-3. 1952-1953 he returned to FECOM with duties as S-3, 503d Airborne Infantry, later assuming the duties as Bn CO in the 179th Infantry Regiment, and Assistant G-3, Headquarters X Corps. 1954-1955 he was NG Advisor with the Second NG Adv Group, Scranton, Pennsylvania. 1956-1958 he served as Staff Officer with ODCSOPS, Pentagon, and attended the Army War College in 1959. 1960-1962 he served as Brigade Executive Officer, Brigade Deputy Commander and Brigade Commander of the 9th Infantry, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. | Colonel Naughton’s awards and decorations include: the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, CIB 2d Award, French Croix de Guerre w/Pendant, French Fourragare and Master Parcht w/2 Bronze Stars (Normandy and Rhineland).
