The Honorable Edward B. Hipp was commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduating from OCS Class 238-A on 20 May 1943. His first duty assignment was as a Rifle Platoon Leader, 3rd Battalion, 176th Infantry Regiment, Demonstration Regiment (The Infantry School), Fort Benning, GA. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Company Commander, Co K, 176th Infantry, Fort Benning, Georgia; Rifle Platoon Leader, Co G, 112 Infantry, 28th Division, Europe; War Bond Speaker, New York; and ROTC Instructor, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. | After leaving the Army, Mr. Hipp was a member of the Federal Communications Commission/State Joint Board; Past Chairman, Communications Committee of National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners; Former General Counsel, North Carolina Utilities Commission; Special Counsel, North Carolina General Statutes Commission; and American Bar Association Forum Committee on Communication Law, and Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina. | Mr. Hipp is currently Commissioner of the North Carolina Utilities Commission. | Mr. Hipp's military awards and decorations include: the Silver Star, Purple Heart, American Campaign Ribbon, European Campaign Ribbon w/3 Battle Stars, World War II Victory Ribbon, Normandy Campaign, Northern France Campaign, Central Europe Campaign (Hurtgen Forest) and Combat Infantryman Badge.
