Brigadier General Sally F. Petty
Description
BG Sally F. Petty was commissioned a Logistics Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, 21 August 1992. Her first duty assignment was as a Platoon Leader in the 786th S&S Bn in the Virgin Islands Army National Guard (VIARNG) on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Her subsequent duty assignments include: Commander, 662nd Field Service Company, VIARNG; Operations Officer, HHC Quartermaster Water Supply Battalion, Mayor Cell, Camp Taji, Iraq; Operations Officer, J3 Directorate for the Joint Task Force, GITMO in Cuba; Commander, 786th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, VIARNG, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; Chief of Staff - Army, Joint Force Headquarters, VING, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Joint Task Force Commander, hurricanes Irma and Maria, and Dual Status Commander, COVID-19 Pandemic, 2020. At the time of her Hall of Fame selection, she was serving as The Assistant Adjutant General – Army, for the Virgin Islands Army National Guard, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
Her military education and training includes: Infantry Officer Candidate School, Quartermaster Officer Basic Course and Advanced Courses, Petroleum Officer Course, Command and Staff Officer Course, Support Operations Course, Intermediate Level Education Course, and Air War College. Military Support to Civil Authorities PH I and PH II, Joint Staff Training Course, the Dual Status Commander’s Course, and Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Education in Leadership in Homeland Security Program.
Her highest military awards include: the Legion of Merit (2nd Award), the Bronze Star Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
In her civilian capacity as a part-time Soldier, BG Petty also served as Principal of the prestigious Ivanna Eudora Kean High School on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, home of the Mighty Rays Army JROTC Battalion.
