His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader and then Company Commander, Company C, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry, 2d Brigade, 2d Infantry Division, Republic of Korea. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Company Commander, Company L, 2d Battalion, The School Brigade, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Training Officer, The School Brigade, U.S. Army Signal School, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Company Commander, Company C, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, Republic of Vietnam; Headquarters Commandant, 9th Infantry Division, Republic of Vietnam; United States Army Foreign Area Officer, Ethiopia; Instructor and Director of the African Studies Program, School of International Studies, Institute for Military Assistance, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; County Officer, Somalia; Political Officer, Monrovia; Action Officer, Office of Strategic Nuclear Policy, Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs; Deputy Director of Policy Plans and Coordination, Bureau of Inter-American Affairs; Consul General, Durbin, South Africa; Consul General, Capetown, South Africa; USAmbassador to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
