His first duty assignment was as S1, 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Platoon Leader, B/2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Platoon Leader, A/2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Republic of Vietnam; Executive Officer, A/2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Republic of Vietnam; Operations Officer, G3 Operations Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. | First Lieutenant's Knox's civilian education includes: a BA from Harvard College in 1967, a MA in History from Yale University in 1972, and a PhD in History from Yale University in 1977. | His civilian career is highlighted by fellowships at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in 1982 and the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey in 1988. He is Stevenson Professor of International History emeritus at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, United Kingdom. | His many works include Mussolini Unleashed, 1939-1941, Hitler’s Italian Allies; and, with Williamson Murray, The Making of Strategy: Rulers, States, and War and The Dynamics of Military Revolution, 1300-2050.
