Captain Michael E. Mahoney was commissioned an Infantry Officer on 19 December 1942 upon graduation from Officer Candidate School. His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader, 318th Infantry, A Company, Camp Forest, Tennessee. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Executive Officer and Company Commander for 318th Infantry, A Company, Camp Forest, Tennessee. | Captain Mahoney's military awards and decorations include: Silver Star, Purple Heart w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Antarctica Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge and Carbine Bar. | Captain Mahoney retired from military service in 1946 because of wounds he received in France in November of 1944. He is a Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and also a Life Member and past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10695 and former Commander of American Legion Post 94. He is the former Adjutant and Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, former Vice Commander and member of Northwest Valley Veterans Association. He is a member of Forty and Eight Legionnaires and the Military Officers Association of America. He was the President of the Sundome Lions Club, member of the Sun Cities Lion Foundation and is a Lions Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated Humanitarian Services. He has been active in his community and heavily involved with his local church.
