Colonel Stephen E. Allen, Jr. was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from The Infantry School Officer Candidate School, Class 302, 26 October 1943. | His subsequent duty assignments include: service at Camp Butner, North Carolina, Camp Pickett, Virginia, and Camp Forest, Tennessee as an Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader in Company B, 309th Regiment, 78th Infantry Division for 5 months; 20 months in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany with the 294th Engineer Combat Battalion, VIIth Corps, and Company C, 22nd Armored Engineer Battalion; Platoon Leader, 5th Armored Division; Platoon Leader and Company Commander, Company B, 23rd Armored Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. He was released from active duty in March of 1946. In October of 1950, he was recalled to active duty for 21 months. He served at Camp Rucker, Alabama, as Post Claims Officer and Legal Assistant Officer, and as Trial Counsel on the Post General Court Martial. | Allen was released from active duty in July of 1952, and continued military service in the Army Reserve. Reserve assignments included: Controller, 11th JAG Detachment, Jackson, Mississippi; Commander, 201st JAG Detachment; Assistant Detachment Commander and Detachment Commander, 11th JAG Detachment. | Allen was promoted to Colonel, JAGC-UAAR 4 August 1969 and retired at that rank after 31 years of active duty and Reserve duty assignments. | At the time of his induction, Colonel Allen was a member of the Copiah County and Mississippi Bar Associations and a Fellow in the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He is a life member of the Reserve Officer Association, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
