COLONEL EUGENE E. CROWDEN, JR.

Colonel Crowden was called to active duty with the Indiana National Guard in January 1941.  He rose to the rank of sergeant, E-5, prior to attending the Infantry OCS Class 28 which graduated on 4 July 1942.

Upon graduation he was assigned as a platoon leader with the 363rd Infantry Regiment 91st Infantry Division at Camp White Oregon.  In April 1944, as a company commander, he arrived in Oran, Algeria and two months later arrived in Naples, Italy.  While assigned to the 363rd he served additional duties as Regimental S-2 and Battalion Executive Officer.

Upon termination of World War II, Colonel Crowden reverted to the grade of master sergeant in the Ordnance Corps.  While at Fort Bragg he was selected to attend the warrant officer course and was subsequently promoted to warrant officer, W1, and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division’s Judge Advocate General office which was located in Japan in 1949.  He deployed with Division to Korea where he remained until the conclusion of the war.  He continued his service with the Judge Advocate General Corps and rose to the rank of chief warrant officer, CWO-4, while serving in Panama, Alaska, Fort Sill and Fort Gordon.  Upon his retirement, culminating 28 years of service, he was promoted to his reserve rank of full colonel.

Colonel Crowden received an associate degree while at Fort Sill from the Oklahoma State University.

Colonel Crowden’s awards included:   Bronze Star with “V” device and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Europe-Middle East-Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupational Medal (Japan), National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, United Nations Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Presidential Unit Citation.
