Description

Colonel John R. Clark, Jr. was commissioned from Infantry Officer Candidate School, Class Number 204, 25 June 1952. During 1953 and 1954, he served as Platoon Leader and Company Commander in the 2d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment. In 1957, he worked in the Intelligence Field in U.S. Army Europe for two years. In 1960, he assumed Command of Company A, 2d Battalion, 54th Infantry, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth he served as Senior Regimental Advisor in Kien Hoa Sector. For the next three years he served in the Defense Intelligence Agency in China. In 1968 Colonel Clark was assigned to the 3d Armored Division in Germany first as the Inspector General and then as Battalion Commander of the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry and finally as Brigade Commander, 3d Brigade, 3d Armored Division. He returned to Vietnam in 1971 as Deputy Commander of II Corps. In 1972 he assumed the duties of Commander, for District Recruiting Command in Montgomery, Alabama and later became the Deputy Commander of the Southeast Regional Recruiting Command. | Colonel Clark retired from Military Service in August 1974. | His awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge (2d Award), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal.
