Description

Colonel Joseph S. Sulenski graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate Class Number 537, 18 April 1946, and was separated after two years of active duty. He returned to active duty in 1951 and joined the 10th Infantry Division. In 1954, he was assigned again to Fort Benning to attend the Infantry Officer Advance Course and went from there to Stuttgart, Germany where he was the Training Officer for Headquarters Company, 7th Army and the Company Commander for Headquarters Company, VII Corps. | Colonel Sulenski then served as the Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at West Point, United States Military Academy, and later became a student himself when he attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. | He departed for Korea in 1966 and served as the Deputy G-5, Eighth United States Army. Following Korea, he was the War Plans/Operations Research Officer at Headquarters, Department of the Army, and in 1969, he was Battalion Commander 2/35th Infantry in Vietnam. After Vietnam he returned to CONUS and served with the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reserve Forces at the Presidio, San Francisco, California. | Colonel Sulenski's awards and decorations include: Silver Star, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Gold Star, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Army of Occupation Award and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
