Myron H. Murley

Colonel Myron enlisted in the Ohio National Guard on 4 January 1940 and entered Federal Service 15 October 1940 and attained the rank of Platoon Sergeant. On 25 June 1942 he was graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School and commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Infantry. | From July 1942 to October 1944, Colonel Murley commanded a rifle platoon and later a rifle company in the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, during the Normandy, Central France and Rhineland campaigns. In October 1944, he was seriously wounded in action and remained hospitalized until March of 1946. | In March 1946 he was assigned to Japan where he joined the 11th Airborne Division and qualified as a paratrooper and commanded B Company, 187th Parachute Infantry Regiment. In November of 1947 hospitalized again, resulting from wounds received in World War II. In May 1948 Colonel Murley joined the 9th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis, Washington, and a year later transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  He then rejoined the 9th Infantry Regiment in Korea and served as Battalion Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment and Assistant Division G-4, 2nd Infantry Division, from March 1952 to March 1953. | Returning from Korea in April 1953 he again joined the 82nd Airborne Division as Assistant Division G-4. In November 1954 he became the Army Command Management System Project Officer for ACofS, G-4, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  After graduation from the Associate Command and General Staff College in May 1956, Colonel Murley was assigned to the Southern European Task Force in Verona, Italy, where he assisted in the organization of the Army’s first nuclear capable missile command as Chief of the Manpower and Organization Branch. |Upon his return to the United States in April of 1960 he was assigned to the Plans and Management Branch, ACofS, G-4, Headquarters, 6th U.S. Army, and in June 1962 he transferred to Vietnam and became Deputy Senior Advisor to the Army of Vietnam III Corps and later the Senior Advisor to PBT Special Military Zone and the Republic of Vietnam Ranger units operating in and around Special War Zone D. In January 1964 he returned again to Fort Bragg and XVIII Airborne Corps as Deputy ACofS, G-4. | Colonel Murley deployed with XVIII Airborne Corps on D-Day, 30 April 1965, to the Dominican Republic and remained with the Corps in the Dominican Republic as J4 USFORD.C.MREP during nine months of stability operations until January 1966 when the Corps returned to Fort Bragg. In December of 1965 he was appointed AcofS, G-4, XVIII Airborne Corps. | On 26 February 1968 he volunteered again for duty in Vietnam where he served as Chief of the Supply and Maintenance Division, Headquarters, USARV. He transferred to the 101st Airborne Division in November of 1968, where he became Commanding Officer of the Division Support Command.
