Description
Lieutenant Colonel Thomas W. Mellon served with Company G, 377th Infantry, 95th Division in Camp Swift and Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in positions as Platoon Leader to Company Commander in 1942. As Company Commander of Company G, 303rd Infantry, 97th Division, he served in numerous installations and combat areas which included the Louisiana Maneuver Area, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, European Theater of Operations, Germany, Czechoslavakia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Nigata, Japan. | After spending 1946 with the 23rd Infantry in Fort Lewis, Washington as a Battalion S-3, he joined the 32d Infantry, 7th Division in Munsan-ni and Kaesong, Korea, during 1947-1948. During 1949 and 1950 Lieutenant Colonel Mellon was assigned as PMS&T in the Los Angeles High School District, Los Angeles, California. In 1951 he served as S-3 of the 9th Regiment and G-3 of the 2d Division in Korea where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from the GGSC at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1952 and was assigned as G3, 10th Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas in 1953. From 1954 through 1956 Lieutenant Colonel Mellon was a member of the U.S. Army Standardization Group at the Canadian Army Headquarters, Ottawa, Canada. Following a tour in the Office of R&D at The Pentagon in 1957 thru 1959, he attended the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, in 1960. | Lieutenant Colonel Mellon's awards and decorations include: the Silver Star w/ two oak leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star w/ oak leaf Cluster and the Combat Infantryman Badge 2d Award.
