Lieutenant Colonel Dale M. Engstrom served as instructor with the Weapons Department, The Infantry School, from 1942 to 1943 attaining the rank of Captain. He then attended the Infantry Officer Advance Class where upon completion he was assigned to the 160th Infantry Regiment 40th Infantry Division participating in the Philippine Campaign. | Reverted to inactive status in February 1946, engstrom returned to active duty in January 1947 with the 22d Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. He transferred to the U.S. Forces Austria in 1947, Lieutenant Colonel Engstrom served in the Logistic Section and later as Assistant Secretary-General Staff. Returning to the states in 1951, he attended the Command and General Staff College, Psychological Warfare School, the Air General Operation School and was then assigned to the G-3 Section, Headquarters 1st Army. In 1953 he was transferred to 10th Corp, Korea and later to the Korea Military Advisor Group where he established the Republic of Korea Air Ground School. Reassigned to Japan Lieutenant Colonel Engstrom served as an instructor in the Far East Air Ground School. He then activated the Army portion of the Joint Operation Center for Japan. Returning to the states in 1956 Lieutenant Colonel Engstrom was assigned as Subsector Commander and Senior Unit Advisor, U.S. Army Reserve, Chattanooga, Tennessee. | Lieutenant Colonel Engstrom’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Presidential Citation and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
