WILLIAM F. TOMPKINS
Description
Mr. William F. Tompkins enlisted as a Private in the Army during World War II and was commissioned at the Infantry Officer Candidate School in 1944. He was Commanding Officer of the United States War Crimes Office in Saigon, French Indochina, and was United States Prosecutor in several war crime trials in Singapore. Mr. Thompkins was born in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1935 and from Rutgers University School of Law in 1940. He was elected to the New Jersey Assembly and was responsible for several outstanding bills covering the regulation of narcotics. In 1953 he was appointed as Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Internal Security Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D. C.
