Description
Colonel George Richard Dunn was commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, 15 February 1969. Prior to commissioning, Colonel Dunn was drafted into the Army in 1967 and attained the rank of Sergeant. After his initial assignment as an OCS Tactical Officer and Assistant Brigade Adjutant, he earned his wings as a Rotary Wing Aviator with the follow-on AH1G (Cobra Pilot) Qualification Course.
His subsequent duty assignments include: Aircraft Commander and Aero-Weapons Section Commander, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, RVN; Cavalry Squadron S-3 Air, Company Commander, and Battalion S-4, 82d Airborne Division; Company Commander, United Nations Command/Eighth US Army Honor Guard, Republic of Korea; Company Commander, Brigade S-1, Battalion S-3, Chief of Training under the Division G-3, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault); Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force; Operations Staff Officer, US Central Command; Battalion Commander 3-9 IN (The Army’s first fully COHORT Infantry Battalion), 7th Infantry Division (Light); Assistant Chief of Staff G-3, 25th Infantry Division; Deputy Chief of Staff Training (G-3), Second US Army; Brigade Commander, 3d Brigade, 2d Infantry Division (while simultaneously serving as the post commander of Camp Howze), Republic of Korea; Commander, Readiness Group Atlanta and Department of Defense Coordination Officer (DCO) for Emergency Operations.
His military education and training consists of: United States Army Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, United States Army Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College.
