LTC William L. Shade
Description
Lieutenant Colonel William L. Shade was commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class OC 4-60 at Fort Benning, Georgia on 10 October 1960. His first assignment was as the Detachment Commander, U.S. Army Security Agency Caribbean in the Canal Zone, Republic of Panama.

His highest military awards include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medial with four stars, Army Reserve Medal with 10 Year Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
LTC Shade's civilian industry service includes: Analytical Systems Engineering Corporation as Project Officer supporting the Electronics Systems Division, United States Airforce, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts; Litton Systems Division in College Park, Maryland as the Marketing Manager of Army Programs for classified systems; Perkin Elmer Corporation as Product Development Senior Manager responsible for the development of Laser Warning and Countermeasures Products for use on Aircraft and Ground Vehicles both for United States Military Services and several Foreign Nations; Raytheon with expanded responsibility through corporate mergers, included High Energy Laser Development sufficient to destroy small vehicles and ships. High Power Microwave Devices for potential use in less than lethal means and technical training and support to include Kwajalein Atoll Missile Test site; Supported the conduct field tests of laser warning and missile warning systems at Fort Bliss, Texas, White Sands Missile range in New Mexico, Fort Knox, Kentucky and near Calley Beach, Queensland, Australia.
LTC Shade also authored published articles including “The Laser Battlefield” January 1991 edition of the Department of the Navy, JTCG/Survivability Central Office, Naval Air Systems Command periodic report; October 1991 “Armor Looks to Laser Warning for Enhanced Survivability,” Vol.14, No.10, Journal of Electronic Defense.”
His Post U.S. Army and civilian retirement service includes: Commander American Legion Post 17 and Vice Commander VFW Post 17 both in Nelson County, Virginia; Member, Nelson County Virginia, Honor Guard. Honors to all funerals throughout the County; President, Habitat for Humanity, Nelson County, Virginia; Board Member, State Board, Habitat for Humanity, Richmond, Virginia; Member, Nelson County Virginia Community Development Board responsibility for the development execution of all Community Block Developments Grants; Volunteer assistant, Wintergreen Resort Adaptive Ski Program for disabled Veterans classes; Vice Commander, American Legion Post 202 Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Vice Commander, VFW Post 15, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania;
