Colonel Richard Raphael Perez was commissioned a Signal Corps Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 3-75 at Fort Benning, Georgia, 20 May 1975. His first duty assignment was as a Photo Documentation Team Leader, U.S. Army Special Operations Pictorial Detachment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Following retirement in 2001, Colonel Perez continued to serve the country in the Defense Industrial Base.
