His first duty assignment was as a Special Forces Officer Detachment A-54, Company E, 7th Special Forces Group (Abn), 1st Special Forces, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Assistant Team Commander, Detachment A-321, Company A, 5th Special Forces Group (Abn); 1st Special Forces Group, U.S. Army Pacific (RVN); Executive Officer, Detachment A-351, Company A, 5th Special Forces Group (Abn); 1st Special Forces, U.S. Army Pacific (RVN); Enlisted Service: Company C (Abn), 4th Battalion 23d Infantry, 172 Brigade, Fort Richardson, Alaska; USMC Basic Combat Training. | His military education and training includes: Infantry Officer Candidate School, Basic Airborne Training, Jungle Operations Course, U.S. Army NCO Academy. | His military awards and decorations include: Distinguished Service Cross (May 1967), Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal w/ V Device, Purple Heart w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, RVN Campaign Medal w/ 60 Device. | First Lieutenant Godsey was killed in action 24 August 1967, Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietname. He is interred in the National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.
