First Lieutenant Daniel A. Nixon was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 9-67, 7 February 1967. His first duty assignment was as an Infantry Training Officer, Advanced Infantry Training (AIT), Co. E, 1st BN, 3rdBDE, AITSATC Ifc. Fort Lewis, Washington. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Combat Infantry Platoon Leader, Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade, Republic of Vietnam. Wounded by a mortar round during the May 1968 Offensive, First Lieutenant Nixon retired from the Army and became a journeyman machinist for Boeing Co. He graduated from Washington State University Cum Laude with a BSN Nursing degree. After joining the Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Washington, he spent 12 years in the ICU, 13 years in Educational Services and Staff Development, and 5 years as a case manager in ICU/Advanced Cardiac Care. Upon retiring from the medical profession, First Lieutenant Nixon became the Vice President, and subsequently President of the 199th Light Infantry Association. | First Lieutenant Daniel A. Nixon is a graduate of The Infantry Officer Candidate School, Clerk Typist School, Co. C 4BDE Fort Ord, California MOS 71A10 and 5th Company 7th Battalion OC, Student Brigade, Fort Benning, Georgia. | His military awards include the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm Device, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal Unit Citation First Class, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
