Milton M. Mcpherson

First Lieutenant Milton McPherson was commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 16-52, 26 June 1952. His first duty assignment was as Commanding Officer, H Company, 61st Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Commanding Officer, H Company, 61st Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. The conclusion of the Korean Conflict allowed Dr. McPherson to receive an Honorable Discharge in August 1953. | McPherson is the author of The Ninety Day Wonders: OCS and the Modern American Army, the preeminent work explaining the origin and evolution of the Officer Candidate School concept during and after World War I. He has also authored 40 scholarly articles and edited Timeless Moments: Essays in American History. | His civilian education includes: BA, MA, and PhD in History from the University of Alabama in 1950, 1956, and 1959 respectively. He completed Post Doctoral Studies at the University of Virginia in 1977.
