Colonel (Ret.) Darrell W. Katz was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 8-65, 15 September 1965. His first duty assignment was as Tactical Officer, 6th Student Battalion, Infantry OCS, Fort Benning, Georgia. | His subsequent duty assignments were: Commander, 14th Company, Vietnamese Mobile Strike Force, I Corps, 5th SFGA, Republic of Vietnam; Commander, Company A, 2/325th Airborne Infantry, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Executive Officer, Company D, 10th Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade; Operations Officer, 71st Assault Helicopter Company, 11th Aviation Brigade, Wertheim, Germany; Commander, ODA 6, Detachment A, Berlin Brigade, U.S. Army, Berlin, Germany; Commander, 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Bad Toelz, Germany; Operations Division Chief, Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida; Commander, 7th Special Operations Support Command, U.S. Army Europe; Director of Operations, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Deputy Director of Operations, U.S. Special Operations Command. | Following retirement, Colonel Katz remained actively engaged in the Special Forces and veteran's community through active participation in the Special Forces Association having served as Veterans' Affairs Officer and past President of Chapter LX.
