His first duty assignment was as Tank Platoon Leader, Company C, 1-185 Armor, 40 Infantry Division (Mechanized), Indio, California. | His subsequent duty assignment include: Executive Officer, Company C, 1-185 Armor, Indio, California; Battalion Tactical Intelligence Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, C, 1-185 Armor, San Bernardino, California; Company Commander, C, 1-185 Armor, Indio, California; Battalion Assistant Operations Officer (Air), Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-185 Armor, San Bernardino, California; Battalion Intelligence Officer and Operations Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-185 Armor, San Bernardino, California; Brigade Operations Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade 40 Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort MacArthur, California; Battalion Commander, 1-185 Armor, San Bernardino, California; Squadron Commander, 1st Squadron, 18th Cavalry (40 Infantry Division (Mechanized), Ontario, California. | He was serving as Armor, United States Army Reserve Individual Ready Reserve, United States Army Ready Reserve. | At the time of his induction, Colonel Sniff had been by profession a career law enforcement officer in California for more than 24 years. He worked his way up through the ranks and was ranked a Captain within one of the largest Sheriff's Departments (Riverside County) in the United States. He commanded a field patrol station in Banning, California, that provides law enforcement services for over 450 square miles. He also was under contract with the City of Calimesa as their Police Chief.
