Lieutenant Colonel Robert L. Newell served as Platoon Leader and Company Commander with the 159th Infantry Regiment in the Attu Operations during World War II. He also served as Deputy Post Commander at Camp Gifu, Japan and as Battalion Commander with the 23rd Infantry Regiment in Korea. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Personnel Affairs Officer, University of Washington & Lee and Far East Command, IE Shima, Japan; Staff Officer, Far East and Pacific Branch; G-3 Operations, Department of the Army; Unit Advisor to the Hawaii National Guard; Plans Staff Officer, Plans and Policy Branch, G-3 Section, United States Army Pacific, Hawaii. | Lieutenant Colonel Newell is a graduate of the Advanced Infantry School. | His awards and decorations include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, The Presidential Unit Citation w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Glider Badge.
