Colonel Richard Alexius Foy was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School on 7 December 1944, Class Number 370. His first duty assignment was Basic Training Battalion at Camp Wheeler, GA. | His subsequent duty assignments include: 272 Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division, Weapons Platoon; Occupation duty as Displaced Persons Camp Commander at Linz, Austria while assigned to the 26th, 83rd, and 42nd Infantry Divisions; USAR duty was all with 4074 U.S. Army Reception Station, Willow Grove, PA; 23 years of Command and Staff Duty, including 8 years as Unit Commander. Received 5 Superior Unit awards while commanding the 4074 U.S. Army Reception Station. Required to transfer to RCPAC in 1971 as reinforcement in control group status. Performed many ADT tours as a Training Evaluator, and as an Engineer Contract Job Inspector for DFAE at Fort Devens, MA. | His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star w/V Device and Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/3 Battle Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/2 Hour Glass Devices, and many other awards and letters of commendation. | Military schools attended include: Radio Operators School, U.S. Army Specialized Training, Second Army Instructor Courses, Infantry and Adjutant General Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Active Duty G-1 Staff Officer Course, U.S. Army Safety Management Course (250 hr.-Qualified Safety Officer), Weapons Refresher Course (120 hr. on Infantry Weapons in 1980). | Colonel Foy graduated from the AFlorida Carpentry Training Program as Master Carpenter in 1953.
