Colonel Michael J. Sierra graduated from OCS, 51st Company, 14 May 1964. His initial assignment was as a platoon leader, Company A, 2/327th, 101st Airborne Division. | Colonel Sierra’s subsequent assignments include: platoon leader, 2/327th, Republic of Vietnam academic director, 7th Army NCO Academy; company commander, GS Operations, 1st Cavalry Division, Republic of Vietnam; instructor, Norwich University, Vermont; S-3/XO, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, Fort Hood, POL MIL planner, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff-JS, Washington, D.C.; G-3, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; commander, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, Schofield Barracks, HI; and is presently the Commandant, United States Army School of the Americas, Fort Benning. | Colonel Sierra has completed the Armor Officers Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, Army War College, and holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations. | Colonel Sierra’s military awards include: Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star w/V Device, Bronze Star for Meritorious Service w/2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge.
