Major James T. Taylor was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 25-67, 28 April 1967. His First Duty assignment was as instructor, Land Mine Warfare Team, Antitank/Missile Committee, Fort Benning, Georgia. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Platoon Leader, Company Commander, and S 3 (Air), 1/503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Vietnam; Lieutenant Assignments Officer, Infantry Branch, Office of Personnel Operations, Washington, D.C.; Exchange Officer, From 82nd Airborne Division, To 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, 16 Parachute Brigade, Aldershot, England, where his assignments included Weapons Training Officer (S 3); Company Commander, D Company; Officer in Charge, Brecon Training Center, The Parachute Regiment, Brecon, Wales. Upon his return to CONUS he served as Instructor, Operations and Training Techniques Committee, Staff Group, Brigade and Battalion Operations Department, Fort Benning, Georgia; Company Commander, Headquarters Company, and Intelligence Officer, Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pennsylvania. | Major Taylor is a graduate of the Armor Officer Advance Course, British Company Commanders Course, Infantry Officer Candidate Course, Jumpmaster Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Special Forces Advanced Medical Training Course, Medical Specialist Course, Airborne Course, Intermediate Speed Radio Operators Course, Infantry School Instructor Training Course and the Information Security Management Course. | His awards and decorations include: the Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Special Forces Tab, Senior Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Medical Badge and Over Seas Service Bars (5).
