Colonel Eugene C. Camp was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School (Fiji) Class 2, 31 January 1943. His first duty assignment was as Assault Platoon Leader, later Machine Gun Platoon Leader, 37th Infantry Division, Fiji and Bougainville. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Company Commander, A Company, 41st Infantry Training Brigade, Camp Croft, South Carolina; Operations Officer, 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Operations Officer, 41st Armored Infantry Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas; Operations Officer, Combat Command A, 2nd Armored Division, U.S. Army Europe; Battle Group Executive Officer, 28th Infantry Battle Group, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, the Pentagon; Chief, Army Mission in Peru; Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Southern Command; Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, 5th Army, San Antonio, Texas | Colonel Camp's military awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal, Asian Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
