Colonel (later Brigadier General) Bernard A. Nurre was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School, Class #223-43 on April 22, 1943.  His first duty assignment was as Platoon Leader, 274th Infantry, 70th Infantry Division. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Rifle Company Executive and Commander, Infantry Battalion S-1, S-2 and S-3, Regimental Headquarters Liaison Officer, Assistant S-3, S-1 and S-5. Five months duty as Assistant Inpsector General headquartrs European Command, and Chief of Staff, 49th Infantry Division.
