Miller graduated from Officer Candidate School on 17 December 1957, class number OC-6. His first duty assignment was as Training Officer, Basic Training Command, Fort Chaffee, AK. | His subsequent duty assignments include: Aviator, 1st Cavalry Division Korea;  Asst. S-3, 101st Avn Battalion, Fort Campbell, KY; Commanding Officer, C Company Hq Co, 2/19 Infantry, Augusburg, Germany;  Assistant S-3, 10th Avn Battalion, Republic of Vietnam; S-3, Command Officer, 281st Avn Co., 10th Avn Battalion, Republic of Vietnam; Instructor, USAIS; Assignment Officer, Infantry Branch, Milpercen, Alexandria, VA; Commanding Officer, 269th Avn Battalion, Fort Bragg, NC; G3/Dpt 101st Airborne Division; Commanding Officer, 12th Avn Group, Wiesbaden, FRG, and is currently the Deputy Assistant Commandant United States Army Aviation School, Fort Rucker, AL. | Colonel Miller has also completed the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College. | Colonel Millers military awards include: Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal w/9 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal.
